# Stay Agreements & Legal Structure

## Agreement Nature

Kouchd provides an agreement and record-keeping tool for informal cohabitation, extended visits, and mutual household support.

### Important Distinctions

* **Not a Lease or Brokerage**: Kouchd is not a real estate broker, leasing agent, landlord-tenant arbitration board, or escrow holder.
* **Mutual Record**: The terms accepted on Kouchd serve as documentary evidence of mutual intent and shared understanding between host and guest.
* **Local Tenancy Laws**: Users should consult local municipal laws regarding extended guest stays, subletting, and residential guest occupancy limits.

### Versioning & Immutability

* All stay terms are versioned (`v1`, `v2`, etc.).
* A host cannot modify rates, due dates, or rules without creating a new terms version.
* Any new version requires explicit co-signing by both the host and the guest before taking effect.
