# Privacy, Data & Security

> How your personal information and financial records are protected.

## Data Privacy & Encryption

1. **Authentication & Identity**:
   * Authentication is powered by Clerk with enterprise-grade encryption and security practices.
   * We do not store passwords in plain text or handle raw credentials.
2. **Convex Realtime Database**:
   * Stays and household ledgers are completely partitioned. Only verified members of a household stay can view or query records associated with that stay.
3. **No Direct Fund Custody**:
   * Kouchd does not hold or escrow user funds. Users transfer funds externally (via bank transfer, cash, or payment apps) and log the transaction details on Kouchd for shared bookkeeping.
4. **Audit Trails**:
   * Every financial action (creation, confirmation, dispute, waiver, or void) creates an immutable entry in the stay activity timeline with a timestamp and the actor's user ID.
